Conventional braces

Park Dental have been successfully proving conventional braces in Nottingham for a number of years. These fixed metal braces offer precision results for a cost-effective price. They’re not the most attractive option, but if you don’t mind putting up with the look during the treatment you’ll be repaid with a near-perfect smile for years and years to come.

If you’re thinking back to the braces from your teenage years you might be pleasantly surprised – today the brackets are a lot neater, covering a smaller area of each tooth. Thanks to improved materials and advances in our understanding, they’re also much more comfortable than they used to be.

How they work

Fixed braces allow orthodontists to be really precise, moving each tooth in almost any direction. Generally, we attach brackets and bands first, then fit an arch-shaped wire along the brackets. As the tooth moves, new bone gradually takes the place of old and secures the tooth’s new position. At the end of treatment, you’ll be left with a straighter, more beautiful smile.

Taking care of your teeth and braces

The thought of looking after braces may seem daunting but it’s really not that complicated – it just takes a little getting used to.

Firstly, it’s important you get to all your appointments, as missing a session could mean the teeth move too far. We’ll work with you to find times that are convenient and can even offer evening appointments to make life easier.

Next, make sure you keep your teeth really clean. It’s easy for food to get trapped in and around brackets and wire, which can increase the chance of tooth decay and cause less-than-fresh breath, as well as look embarrassing. We advise customers to brush their teeth after every meal, floss daily, and rinse their mouth with water after a fizzy drink or sweet snack. It’s also best to avoid foods that can damage or get stuck in your braces.
